Transforming Our New Build House into a Home

Transforming Our New Build House into a Home

By Adding Colour and Personality

Moving into a new build house offers a blank canvas to unleash our creativity and turn it into a place that truly feels like home. Two years ago, we embarked on this journey, armed with a plan, colour schemes, and a vision to create a happy and vibrant living space. Now, as we reflect on the process and the results, we can confidently say that our home is finally complete. In this blog post, I’m going to take you on a tour of our house, room by room, showcasing the thoughtful design choices and the colourful transformations that have brought our home to life.

Hallway

Holly Scott Hallway

The hallway is the gateway to our home, setting the tone for what lies beyond. Opting for a soft neutral colour as a base, we added statement gold lighting fixtures and a fun cabinet from Swoon, to create an impactful first impression. By layering in a metallic cowhide, we softened the space, adding a touch of elegance that complements the adjoining rooms.

Kitchen

The kitchen serves as the heart of our home, and we wanted to make a bold statement in this space. Opting for a strong blue colour scheme to make the kitchen units effortlessly stand out. I swapped out the silver handles from the kitchen cabinets for knurled brass ones from Howdens, to add texture and depth, complementing the gold chair legs and other gold accents I have added to this space. Inspired by a large artwork, we incorporated colours from it into the room, creating cohesion with soft velvet dining chairs and bespoke curtains. Layered lighting, including a pendant light above the kitchen island, serves as a focal point, enhancing the overall ambiance.

Living Room

As blue enthusiasts, it was only natural for us to infuse this calming colour into our living room. The blue sofas from Sofa.com became a cornerstone of the room's design, while the soft wall tone provided a perfect backdrop for the artwork behind them. By employing tonal layers of texture and incorporating gold accents, we achieved a cozy and warm atmosphere. These accents not only reflect light but also add a touch of elegance to the space.

Snug/Play Room

In our snug/playroom, I wanted to strike a balance between fun and sophistication. While we initially wanted the room to be predominantly pink for our daughters, we compromised by incorporating a deep green colour block to frame the picture wall, introducing an element of contrast. This room served as an ideal space to create a gallery wall, showcasing our favorite photos and artwork, injecting a personalised touch.

Cloakroom

When it comes to decorating the smallest room in the house, I believe in going wild! Our cloakroom became a conversation starter with its statement wallpaper, reminiscent of a waterlily painting that I created when I was at school. This space brings together our favorite colours, from greens and blues to pinks, adding vibrancy and personality to an often-overlooked part of the house. I love this waterlily Wedgewood wallpaper by Clarke & Clarke.

Master Bedroom

Our master bedroom was designed to evoke the luxurious ambiance of a hotel, offering a serene retreat at the end of each day. A neutral color palette, enriched with luxurious textures and gold accents, sets the stage for relaxation. Double-layered curtains bring opulence to the space, beautifully complementing the metallic wallpaper.

Girls' Bedrooms

The girls' bedrooms were conceived as spaces that seamlessly blend fun and sophistication, allowing for their evolving tastes as they grow. Elements of whimsy were incorporated to create rooms they would love, while still maintaining a sense of timeless appeal.

Home Office/Guest Room

For the home office/guest room, I opted for a fresh and invigorating soft green colour scheme. This colour promotes productivity and complements the existing roman blind from our previous living room. The addition of a deep green velvet sofa bed introduced a fun and comfortable element, making this room a delight to work in but also an inviting space for guests to stay.
